The Department of General and Minimally invasive Surgery at Govt. Medical College Doda is dedicated to provide best comprehensive surgical care to the people of Chenab valley and train the next generation of surgeons to serve the state. The Department of General and Minimally Invasive Surgery of GMC Doda started in year March 2019. The Department of General and Minimal invasive Surgery is a specialized medical field that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting various organs and systems of the body, primarily through surgical procedures. This department often incorporates both traditional (open) surgical techniques and more modern, minimally invasive approaches.

This course is offered through the National Board of Examinations (NBE). DNB programs provide specialized
training similar to MS degrees and are highly regarded in India. The department is now training 5 DNB students
every year.

The Department of General Surgery, Government Medical College Doda, conducted a two-day conference "Traumacon 22" on 30th and 31st December 2022. Over 100 doctors from different health institutes, as well as paramedical staff, participated in this academic feast. Different aspects of trauma management were explained and discussed with the aim of updating the skills of healthcare professionals.

The two-day SURGICON 2023 was organized to exchange knowledge and expertise among the surgical faculties across the country. The event also provided an opportunity to introduce GMC Doda to the medical fraternity in the rest of the country. It was believed that the conference will help to attract more faculty joining GMC Doda to tackle the shortage of staff and eventually provide better healthcare facilities to the people of Chenab Valley.
