Ophthalmology, or eye care, has several goals, including:
Ophthalmologists offer a variety of services, including:
Cataract Evaluation : Sutureless cataract surgeries and topical phacoemulfication.
Glaucoma Evaluation : Non Cataract tonometry, Glaucoma surgeries (trabeculectomy) laser iridotomy.
Pediatric ophthalmology : Treats eye conditions in children from birth to the teenage years, as well as strabismus in adults.
Oculoplasty : Focuses on abnormalities of the structures around the eye, and can be performed for medical or cosmetic reasons.
Neuro-ophthalmology : Focuses on the relationship between the brain and the eye, and deals with disorders of the brain, orbit, and optic nerve.
Low vision : Deals with people who have reduced vision even with corrective lenses, and offers devices and strategies to help them remain independent.
Squint correction : Treats misalignment of the eyes, which can be caused by an imbalance of the eye muscles or faulty nerve signals.
Dry eye treatment : Diagnoses and treats dry eye, and can prescribe medication or other treatments.
Macular degeneration : Helps prevent blindness in older people.
